Abstract
Programmable calculators are reviewed. The type of use envisaged includes repeated evaluation of simple formulae, simple simulations and the solution of simple differential equations. The most important considerations before purchasing are discussed as is the degree to which the calculator is fully programmable i.e. the number of conditional and unconditional jumps that can be performed. The programming capacity is a criteria that is harder to appreciate; this is discussed. A table is provided showing the cost, facilities available etc. of different calculator models now available.
