The question of one snake or two is interesting from a historical standpoint. However, the more important question is which should be the symbol of modern medicine. The answer is simple, after the 50th anniversary of Watson and Crick's great discovery (2): The symbol should be 2 snakes intertwined in a double helix.References1. Wilcox RA, Whitham EM.
