Abstract

Witnesses at a U.S. congressional hearing on reducing hurricane and flood risk argued for better assessments of flood risk, a national survey of levees, and a reevaluation of flood protection threshold levels. The hearing, held on 27 October by the U.S. House of Representatives' Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment, was one in a series to examine failures of hurricane and flood protection measures during hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
