Abstract
SUMMARY Rooting response of stem cuttings from coppice shoots and 2 to 8 year old trees of P. juliflora was investigated in different seasons, and with various planting media and auxin treatments. Best results were achieved with the rooting of “juvenile” stem cuttings; “mature” stem cuttings were hard to root irrespective of planting medium and season. The best period for rooting cuttings was February-March, using sand as potting media. Thin cuttings of diameter <0.70 cm performed poorly. Exogenous application of auxins (particularly NAA) and commercial rooting powder improved rooting.
