Abstract
The kinetics for the hydrolysis of trinitrodiethylenetriaminecobalt(III) and the tetranitroethylenediaminecobalt(III) anion have been studied at 0° in aqueous solutions containing varying amounts of alkali; the hydrolyses are of the second- and first-order, respectively. Arguments are presented against the conjugate-base mechanism of base hydrolysis of cobaltammine complexes in aqueous solutions.
