Abstract
Abstract A matrix Green's function technique is used to find the surface band structure of the zincblende‐type semiconductors. A crystal is described by a tight‐binding Hamiltonian with interactions between nearest neigbours. The exact analytical expressions for the transfer matrices at the centre of the surface Brillouin zone are obtained and existence conditions of the surface states are discussed.
