Abstract
A pilot study was performed in order to elucidate whether by local or peroral application of glutamic acid, glycine, and cysteine the amino acid concentrations in the aqueous humor could be increased. After local application of a 4% solution of the 3 amino acids there is a remarkable increase in glycine and cysteine, while the rise in concentration of glutamic acid is less evident. Peroral application of 0.4 g glutamic acid, 0.2 g glycine, and 0.4 g cysteine per kg bodyweight effects an increase in concentrations in the aqueous. Lowering the dosis to 1/2 or 1/5 respectively, only glutamic acid and cysteine are still above the normal level.
