Abstract

Solution mined cavities in sedimentary deposits can cause serious subsidence problems. The occurence of subsidence, espcially sinkhole formation and ground collapse, is partly due to insufficient knowledge of the local geology and of the subsidence mechanisms. Susbsidence prediction improves safety and reduces environmental risk of existing solution mines.
