Abstract

The IBM PCjr is the most recent addition to the IBM Personal Computer family. A major design consideration incorporated in the PCjr is a high level of program compatibility with the IBM Personal Computer and the IBM Personal Computer XT. The first part of this article describes the PCjr's hardware architecture, characteristics, and features. The second part describes the portion of the system design relating to the hardware and software necessary to ensure a high level of compatibility between the PCjr and the IBM Personal Computer as well as the IBM Personal Computer XT.
