Abstract
Collisionless stationary low-beta shock waves are produced in the range of alfven-mach number m a between 3.1 and 4.25. Magnetic probe and thomson scattering measurements indicate anomalous electron heating at low m a and the onset of anomalous ion heating at high m a : the transition occurs between m a =3.1 and m a =3.3. No extended 'foot' is observed: the magnetic field and temperature transitions remain sharp up to m a =4.25.
