Abstract

Traces the development of the application of quantitative methods in library and information science, from librametry to informetrics. Mentions selected informetrics techniques with examples from library and information field. Discusses briefly the contributions of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan to quantification in library work and service; some of the applications appear to be intuitive with a view to improving information services to users, making the services more user-friendly and enhancing efficiency of library and information management
