SKIN THICKNESS AND SKINFOLD THICKNESS IN ANOREXIA NERVOSA

Abstract

SUMMARY.— Skin thickness measured radiographically and skinfold thickness measured by callipers were determined in 6 patients with anorexia nervosa before treatment and after restoration of body weight. Pre‐treatment skin thickness measurements fell at the lower limit of normal or actually below this. Restoration of body weight resulted in little change in skin thickness in contrast to a large increase in subcutaneous fat as measured by skinfold thickness. These findings are discussed.
