P-Protein Bodies in Phloem Parenchyma Cells of Parthenocissus and Vitis

Abstract

P-protein bodies similar in appearance to those associated with immature sieve elements and companion cells were encountered in some secondary phloem parenchyma cells of Parthenocissus inserta (Kerner) Fritsch and Vitis riparia Michx. Numerous year-round collections of phloem tissue were examined. In P. inserta, P-protein bodies occurred in phloem parenchyma cells from October through mid-May; in V. riparia, only in March and August.
