Abstract
Summary In the previous paper of woodland change on a plateau beechwood of the Weald of Kent the dendrochronology of Fagus sylvatica (beech) gave some historical perspectives on growth and regeneration of the species (WIDDICOMBE, 1995). Data on the regenerative status of F. sylvatica and of Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl. (sessile oak) collected in this area prior to the ‘hurricane’ of 1987 is compared with data from two woodlands on similar soils in the South-West of England.
