Optimization of major nutrients for guava yield and quality under east coastal conditions.

Abstract

The experiment was laid out with three levels each of nitrogen and potassium (300, 600g and 900 g/tree/year) and, two levels of phosphorus (300g and 600 g/tree/year). All together eighteen treatment combinations with three replications were imposed on well established plants of Allahabad Safeda. Simultaneously, a control was also maintained without application of fertilizers. The experimental results revealed that maximum plant height was recorded due to application of 900 g nitrogen/tree but was at par with 600 g nitrogen/tree. Maximum stem diameter, canopy spread, fruit yield and TSS were recorded due to application of 900 g potassium/tree/year which was at par with 600 g potassium/tree. Higher nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium contents in leaves and fruits were recorded due to application of 900 g N, 600 P and 900 g K/tree/year respectively. Vegetative growth, fruit yield and quality were drastically reduced in control plots due to non-application of fertilizers. It is concluded that 600 g N, 300g P and 600 g K per plant per year is the most appropriate and sustainable dose for getting good growth and yield under hot humid conditions of east coastal region.
