Abstract
This paper summarizes the state-of-the art of the concept, methodology and knowledge for engineering approach for structural fire resistance, First of all, the role of structural fire resistance in fire safety engineering (FSE) is summarized. Then possible engineering approach and the state of the knowledge is described in tenns of design fire exposure to structure, transient temperature state and structural behavior. The bottlenecks and the needs for research are identified for several types of structures.
