Abstract

Abstract Rapid advancement in light generation efficiency of Light Emitting Diode has lent itself for exploitation in the fast growing LCD TV market that is dominated by Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL)backlight. For large area LCD applications like direct LCD/TV and LCD Monitor, superior color gamut of LED over CCFL is extremely attractive. But LED backlight needs improvement in areas like, power, color mixing, thickness, light loss, binning and cost. This paper will describe all these issues suggesting some innovative approaches.
