Abstract
On the basis of distribution of enzyme activities, there was no effect of 1000 r of total-body x irradiation on the size distribution of mitochondria, lysosomes, or uricase particles of rat liver. There was also no effect of total body x irradiation on spontaneous swelling or phosphorylative capacity of rat liver mitochondria. Hence it is concluded that the effects of radiation on rat liver mitochondria in vivo must be very slight.
