Abstract

The Large Area Telescope (LAT) on board the Fermi Gamma‐ray Space Telescope discovered a high‐energy gamma‐ray outburst (characterized by a rapid rise and about five days duration) from a source identified with the blazar PKS 1502+106 (OR 103) on August 2008. The observed bright and variable gamma‐ray flux over the next few months triggered the first ToO Fermi multifrequency campaign including, in particular, a 16‐day follow up by Swift.
