Abstract

This book presents a detailed examination of the state-of-the-art in the management of air pollutants (air toxics). This volume focuses on the latest research, regulatory perspectives, modeling, environmental and human risk assessments, new control strategies, monitoring programs, risk communication, and risk management. Key chapters in the book are devoted to these subjects: National and international approaches to regulating air toxics; Utility and government-sponsored air toxics research activities; Research efforts designed to develop sampling and analytical methods and characterize plant emissions; Fate of air toxic emissions in the atmosphere; Stack and atmospheric monitoring programs and their results; Methodology and results of air toxics risk assessments.
