Abstract

Abstract Stiffness matrices are formulated for the torsional and lateral stability analysis of structures composed of flexural members by the matrix displacement method. The formulations are based upon approximate displacement fields which represent the action of the element in simple flexure. Example problems, for which exact solutions are known, illustrate the accuracy and convergence characteristics of the derived formulations.
