An Error Corrected, a Conclusion Withdrawn, and a Lesson Learned

In this issue is a letter from Pintor and colleagues1 that corrects the conclusions of a paper they published in the Journal nearly two years ago.2 In the earlier paper the authors reported what appeared to be a unique case of Laron dwarfism. The patient had elevated plasma levels of growth hormone combined with an abnormality in protein binding of growth hormone, which is characteristic of this type of dwarfism, but he also had a normal plasma level of insulin-like growth factor I (somatomedin C), which is not.
