Pollution Control: Costs and Benefits

Abstract

Cost-benefit analysis of pollution abatement is reviewed for water and air pollution. The actual positive influence on employment opportunities opened up by the pollution-control industry is stressed as well as economic and health benefits from the improved environmental quality. No estimates are available for noise control or for strip-mined land reclamation. The status of present air and water quality laws is discussed from both federal and industrial viewpoints. (PCS)
