Abstract
The state-of-the-art programmable digital signal processors (DSPs) are introduced. The standard used to evaluate the DSP performance is discussed. TMS320C6x, the most advanced DSP, is analyzed for its architecture and application development issues. Potential improvement of these DSPs is proposed, and the current directions for DSP processors are generalized.
