Cataloging the Confederate Imprints, 1861-1865 Major Microfilm Set

In 1989, Auburn University Libraries created the Microfilm Grant Unit and charged it with cataloging the Confederate Imprints, 1861-1865 major microfilm set. The unit was started with one professional librarian, one library assistant, and two students. It was estimated that it would take three years to catalog the 5,966 item set, if the unit could complete at least 2,000 items per year. To meet this goal, the unit created a workflow which divided the cataloging task into individual steps. This workflow was effective and efficient because it was flexible, mobile, and contained quality control checks.
