Abstract

Maria Lorena Santos earned her PhD at the National University of Singapore, where she wrote her dissertation on the cultural phenomenon of global fan communities surrounding the works of – and the works inspired by – Jane Austen. She has delivered talks on the Austen phenomenon, fandom and fan fiction, and popular literature and culture. She has an undergraduate degree in Creative Writing and a Master’s degree in English Language Studies from the University of the Philippines. Dr. Santos currently teaches with the University of the Philippines’ Department of English and Comparative Literature.
