Abstract

The public switched telephone network (PSTN) is the most widely used network in the world. It provides connectivity between more than half a billion telephone sets and this is still increasing. In the 1970s ideas came up to base this network on digital transport and switching technology to introduce an out-of-band signalling capability to facilitate the integration of voice and data services in the same network. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
