Abstract

The paper explains the principles of 64-bit computing on a desktop computer. Besides 64-bit hardware (microprocessors), 64-bit software (64-bit operating systems and 64-bit applications) is also described in detail. The advantages and disadvantages of transition to a 64-bit platform are analysed.
