Abstract

Parker introduced to leisure society a new concept, semi-leisure, which was a new type of leisure in 1971. It predicted that everyone has a hard time distinguishing a free time from work. As he said, right now we live in the mixed society of leisure and work even if trying to detach a leisure from work. This study examined if working people have an experience of semi-leisure, enjoying a leisure activity. The study based on Neulinger’s Paradigm showed all of them experienced a semi-leisure: especially, sales workers and travel agents were more experienced than others. In addition, all of female and male respondents believed that a leisure activity was a must to improve a quality of life in modern society. Semi-leisure is not an option but a must in modern society. It is time that all of people should enjoy a work, not avoiding a within a leisure. In the future, the author needs to research more detailed casual relations on semi-leisure, even though it is the first exploratory study in Korea.
