Abstract
The European project ROSAS (Research on Silent Aircraft Concepts) has proposed to analyse the noise reduction potential of innovative silent aircraft concepts. A key step towards significant noise reduction could be the efficient shielding of noise sources by the airframe structure (wing, fuselage, tail) with alternative engine positions leading to novel aircraft concepts. Two concepts, an installation of the engines at the rear top of the fuselage and on top of the wing have been proposed and investigated. Aerodynamic Investigations have been performed using CFD.
