Abstract
This Precis entitled, National agricultural research systems : focus on sustainability, complements the Bank's Operations and Evaluation Department (OED), Operations evaluation study : Agricultural extension and research : achievements and problems in national systems, Report No. 16851, dated June 30, 1997. The study recommends making greater use of economic analysis to assist in setting research priorities, emphasizing the importance of agricultural and agricultural research in country assistance strategies and policy dialogues to strengthen borrower willingness to fund research, and strengthening monitoring and evaluation to facilitate research planning and accountability
