Abstract

Static and dynamic aspects of accommodation were investigated with regard to age and the development of presbyopia in two relatively large populations. The majority of accommodative parameters were invariant with age, which in most cases suggested normalcy of neuromotor control. For those parameters which decreased, this decline was attributed to age-related crystalline lens saturation effects. These results are discussed in relation to current theories of presbyopia.
