Abstract

After describing the equipment and the test procedure developed, the authors attempt to show how that equipment can contribute to the knowledge of the properties of bituminous mixtures, and become a useful tool for investigating better stability conditions. They demonstrate the influence of: (1) the nature of the binder (hardness, susceptibility); (2) the angularity of the aggregates and their granularity (dimension, granular, continuous or gap-graded curve); (3) the proportion of mortar and fines/bitumen ratio. Attention is drawn to the essential part played by the voids content and the probable existence of a limit filling rate. IRRD abstract no 107043.
