Abstract

Methane is presently an abundant raw material supplied by the gas industry. It would be advantageous from an economic point of view if methane could be effectively converted to chemicals more suited to uses other than simple combustion and without costly reforming. Three products of interest are ethylene, methanol and formaldehyde. Research is required to identify catalysts and reaction conditions to increase the rate and selectivity of products of methane conversion. New and novel methods of reacting methane are of prime interest in the program. The authors are finding the organic peroxides may have some use in the gasoline industry.
