Abstract
A status report on the Alaska pipeline compares construction details and progress made on the gas and oil lines from Prudhoe Bay. Largely buried gas lines will be routed across Alaska and Canada into the US, where they will utlimately provide 10% of the gas consumed in this country. Planning for the pipeline has involved both countries and a number of companies. The companies formed a general partnership (Alaskan Northwest Natural Gas Transportation Co.) to handle policy and negotiations, while a Project Management Contractor will supervise the construction scheduled to begin in 1980 and be completed by 1983. The gas line is expected to be less difficult to build than the crude oil pipeline.
