Abstract

This general theme can be divided into several sub-categories: 1) the girl who is hard to please in choosing a husband (T.96, T.99 and T.91); 2) the girl who sets a task (T.12, T.44, T.95 and T.89); 3) the abnormal wives (the buffalo-wife T.98, the mermaid T.97 and the girl who melts in the heat T.32); 4) the orphan sister who lives alone with her brother (T.86 and T.101); 5) the boy who does not want to get married (T.136); 6) the father-in-law who does not keep the promise he made to his son-in-law (T.66); 7) the suitors who go to visit their parents-in-law, 19 tales.
