Abstract
We have shown that EAMs can provide various optical pulse shaping functions both with electrical and optical signals. The optical pulse shaping function with electrical signals such as optical short pulse generation and optical gating for OTDM applications will be adopted for the future high-speed communication systems. The pulse shaping function with optical pumping signals can offer very simple and stable wavelength conversion. It gives various useful applications to high-speed all-optical signal processing in the optical transmitters, optical receivers and all-optical regenerators. We believe this all-optical signal processing function will contribute to future high-speed all-optical networks.
