Abstract
Polypropylene paper laminate (PPL) insulation comprises an extruded sheet of polypropylene on either side of which are bonded two layers of thin paper. Although PPL has the external appearance of paper, its electrical and mechanical properties differ. It can be lapped onto a conductor and impregnated with dodecylbenzene (DDB) fluid using similar techniques to a paper cable. The authors initially summarise the advantages of PPL cable and the proving tests that have verified the performance of the cable and accessories. Accessory designs and the method of cable installation are described in detail. Finally the authors lists some current service applications of PPL cable. >
