Abstract
The author points out cultural values and patterns of behavior among Mexican-Americans and barriers to assimilation in an alien society that demand adaptation of the initial contact phases of social work. How the technique was adapted to provide effective counseling and achieve agency-client partnership is illustrated through a case example of a Mexican-American family.
