Abstract
The effects of long chain amines on the antiwear characteristics of tributyl phosphate were evaluated using a four-ball machine. The interaction between tributyl phosphate and amines was investigated by IR, 31 P NMR and differential thermal analysis. It was found that the long chain amines reduced the antiwear properties of tributyl phosphate in the order of primary > secondary > tertiary amines. The preferential adsorption of long chain amines on the surface seems to cause the reduction of antiwear properties of tributyl phosphate.
