Legislative Needs for Texas Transportation, 1976, represents the collective research efforts, over 9 months, by 12 graduate students and 4 members of the faculty from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, The University of Texas at Austin , under contract to the Transportation Committee of the Texas House of Representatives.\nThe research objective was to develop insight into Texas transportation problems and needs, and to prepare legislative recommendations in anticipation of the 1977 biennial session of the Legislature. Three problem areas emerged as most critical to the State's future transportation services:\n(1) the need to improve governmental organization for transportation policy-making at both state and regional levels; (2) the need to increase and rationalize transportation financing; and (3) the need to improve regulation of and planning for commercial transportation services. This report documents the existence of these problems in Texas and offers proposals for legislative consideration.
