Abstract
Rokdoc is a package of subroutines and main programs written in Fortran IV for an IBM 360 computer. It is described here for the programmer who wishes to use the package, adapt its routines for other purposes, or who is concerned with the design of similar packages. Rokdoc was written with the aim of providing a flexible tool which could handle many of the varied programming needs of research projects in the geology department of a university. Flexibility was achieved by separating subroutines for input, output, transformation and analysis of data, while ensuring that results from any step in the analysis could be passed on to routines at the next step. Each data deck carries its own data description on heading cards and can thus be prepared independently of the programs for its analysis. A data library was prepared in conjunction with the package. A wide range of programs can be based on the subroutines of the package, and five easily-modified general purpose programs are listed as examples, together with input and output. As the aim is to describe the package and its use to the programmer rather than to the geologist , fictitious data are used.
