Abstract

Globally, banking regulation plays a critical role in promoting financial stability and economic development of a nation. Through effective regulation and supervision, systemic risks can be mitigated. The recent financial turmoil however, has brought to fore the weaknesses and vulnerabilities of the current regulatory models in the world. This article examines issues on banking regulation, x-rays the imperatives for banking regulations. It seeks to further highlight the implications of the global financial crisis banking regulation. Also, the article discusses the future trends in banking regulation, enumerating the factors that would influence it in future and concludes with recommendations.
