Abstract

Application of the natural temperature difference between the surface and depth of ocean is a process which is called ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) 1. OTEC is an efficient and renewable source of energy which was first introduced in 1881. OTEC systems should be designed according to potential efficiency considerations. Also, OTEC powerhouses could be cost effective sources of renewable energy in tropical coastal areas to which shipping cost of food and fuel is high and expensive.
