Treatment of disseminated onychomycosis due to Trichophyton rubrum with itraconazole under control of plasma levels

Summary. Successful treatment of a disseminated Trichophyton rubrum infection of the nails is reported. Under therapy with 50 mg/100 mg itraconazole daily total remission was achieved after 5 months (fmger nails) and 6 months (toe nails) respectively. Plasma levels of itraconazole were determined twice a month to control the regularity of the treatment using HPLC. Zusammenfassung. Berichtet wird über eine erfolgreiche 6monatige Itraconazol‐Behandlung bei generalisierter Onychomykose durch Trichophyton rubrum. Unter Therapie mit 50 mg/100 mg Itra‐conazol täglich erfolgte eine vollständige Abheilung der Fingernägel nach 5 Monaten, der Zehennägel nach 6 Monaten. Zur Überprüfung der tegelmä‐ßigen Arzneimitteleinnahme wurde der Itracona‐zol‐Serumspiegel in 2wöchigen Abständen mittels HPLC‐Methode bestimmt.
