Overlap Between Achievement and Aptitude Scores

Twenty-one measurements—9 of aptitude and 12 of achievement—collected on a sample of 122 high school seniors were subjected to two types of factor analysis: a principal components analysis and a factor analysis proper. The results indicated that most aptitude variables, as measured by the General Aptitude Tests Battery (GATB), could be considered distinct entities, while most achievement variables, as measured by the Metropolitan Achievement Tests (MAT)., clustered around a general achievement factor.
