Abstract

The article is an attempt to investigate differences in elision in juncture consonant clusters in the utterances of British English and American English speakers. The research was aimed at defining certain general as well as specific features of elision in junctural consonant clusters in the two regional standards BBC English and General American (spontaneous monologue). Samples of unprepared monological speech were analysed at the perceptive and acoustic levels. The preliminary data analysis revealed that the percentage of elision in junctural consonant clusters in British and American English is practically equal.
