Abstract
We propose a charging method for real-time variable bit rate (rt-VBR) traffic in ATM networks. Especially, we explore the effect of burstiness in the rt-VBR traffic to the charging in ATM networks based on the concept of statistical volume such as the effective bandwidth (EB). First, we describe the principles for charging in rt-VBR traffic. Next, we describe the effect of the burstiness to the required EB. After that, we propose a charging method for the bursty rt-VBR traffic. Finally, via numerical experiments, we illustrate the validity of our proposal.
