Endangered freshwater fish: The situation in France

The authors listed 25 threatened species of freshwater fish among the 49 native species in France. The list consists of two species as extinct, two as endangered, 15 as vulnerable, four as rare and two as indeterminate (UICN Red Data book categories). All the amphihaline species (eight) are threatened. For each species, the conservation status (national, european and international level) is given with the main causes of threat and, for some species, the evolution of the geographic range.
