Abstract
The efficiency of two oral rinses was evaluated in college students between 18 and 20 years old: one containing chlorbexidine al 0.12% and the other triclosan al 0.03%. The subjects were selected by simple random sample and divided into three groups: I: rinsing with clorhexidine, teeth brushing and toothpaste; II: rinsing whith toothbrush, toothpaste, and a solulion containing triclosan; and III: with teeth brushing and toothpaste. The O' Leary index was used to evaluate the dental plaque at the beginning of the experiment and in two subsequent evaluations. It was concluded that rinsing with chlorhexidine and triclosan constitutes an efficient alternative for the control of dental plaque.
